Project ADD

I have so many half done projects.
Or I've bought all the materials for one project and haven't even started.

Remember the brush roll? Yeah, almost done!
Slowly but surely I'm going to finish it.
All that's left is the actual sewing.

When I was in high school I took Art and LOVED it.
Watercolors were especially my favorite.
So I decided to order some paints so I can start doing it again.

Oh yeah I bought a charm pack a couple months ago to make a quilt.
But I still need backing fabric and batting.

And yesterday I decided that I want to start doing embroidery again.
I need to go buy a hoop, fabric, and floss.

But wait! I really need a strap for my yoga mat.
Good thing I bought the fabric and velcro for that.

I also really need to make a matching bag for my brush roll.

Oh crap! Mother's Day is next week and my little's 25th birthday!
I need to do something special for her and the moms in my life.

But wait I still haven't finished the original project I have been working on.

This is just a trip into my brain and how it works.
I partly blame Pinterest.

It somehow always comes full circle though.

Another round of Tuesday Topics

The Austin Family Diary

I have professed my love of Pinterest a number of times...

It definitely comes in first for my favorite site. Second would be google reader. That has seriously changed the way I read blogs. I used to bookmark every blog I followed and have to check all of them everyday to see if something new was posted. Oh how naive I was. I went totally off track there for a second.

Moving on. Today is the start of a new Tuesday Topics.

Ten Pins

This was really hard by the way...

Sweet and Sour Chicken

This is probably the best recipe I've gotten off of Pinterest.
I do half the vinegar in case you try it out.

Violet Hunters

I want these soooo bad and would've never wanted them had I not run across them on Pinterest...

I have a recipe handwritten by grandmother that I really want to do this too...

These things are fantastic. No joke go make them right now. But since they're mini you'll convince yourself it's okay to eat like 10 at a time... not that I did that.

Until Pinterest I thought I was the only one who did this...

I leave out the watercress and it's really good. Tastes just like regular egg salad...but better.

House of Rose
This glider will be apart of my future (in like 6 years) nursery...

I think I'm going to send one of my friends these for her 25th birthday... It's so pretty but I can imagine it makes a huge mess...

I really need to own this color

I will be using this as soon as the fabric I just ordered comes in...super excited!

Okay that was pretty hard to sort through over 1,000 pins... I might have a problem.

Being a Debbie Downer on a Monday

Warning! Some may interpret this post as being negative.
It's a Monday so that's already enough negative for me but this has really been bugging me lately.

Pinterest is awesome and amazing. Before it existed I had like 10,000 bookmarks.
(if Dane Cook were reading this he'd scold me for my exaggeration...see what I'm talking about)

But I have a few pet peeves with the pinners of Pinterest...
I may or may not have mentioned them before.

But this post is not about all of them..they are numerous.

Source

The #1 Pinterest Peeve for me right now is:

People who pin an item from Etsy with a caption/comment that says something along the lines of:
"This would be so easy to make"
"They're charging how much for this?!"
"I could make this for so much cheaper."

Umm well yes Etsy is a handmade site so yes it is possible to make everything on there.
But the artist has taken their time to create it, make it and sell it to someone who has no desire to try.

By complaining about a price you are basically saying that their time is not valuable.
Hey! I get it I'm not rolling in it either.
But being upset about a mass manufactured product's price versus an item someone took time out of their day to create is very different.

So let's recap...

Sorry to be a negative nancy...but I needed to vent and now I feel better...

And just so you know I have not stumbled upon anything in my shop that was pinned that have these comments so it's not a personal vendetta I have.

Motivation is hard to come by...

When I'm super jazzed about a project that's pretty much all I need for motivation. When I saw this pin I knew it would be the perfect thing for my living room.

So I headed on down to Lowe's. They boast that this is a cheap project but over $20 for a doormat doesn't really spell cheap to me. Oh well, I was committed to it and $40 for a fairly large piece of artwork really isn't that bad.

Our Lowe's doesn't cut wood boards anymore (apparently some guy cut off his hand because they don't have the right saw) but they did it for me anyways. I may have mentioned I would just go to Home Depot.

I bought two 6ft boards and had them cut them in half. I made the mistake of only buying one can of spray paint. Don't do this get two. My second board's paint is a little thin but I'm so impatient I stuck it up there anyways.

All you do is stain the boards with your favorite color wait for it to dry. Lay the mat on top and spray paint over it a few times. Lastly, add a coat of poly to seal it. Or actually lastly would be put hanging hardware on the back.

Here are my finished boards

And in my living room.... it's at night so excuse the poor lighting...and yes I'm a horrible blogger I use my iPhone instead of my big fancy Canon Rebel...

Horrible picture aside you get the gist. I really like them and they're easy to decorate around. I do consider this a pinterest success!

Did you know there is a whole blog dedicated to pinterest disasters? Pintrosity... wish I'd thought of that...lol

Pinteresting things as of late...

Lately Pinterest has been getting kind of redundant. Don't get me wrong I still love it and use it pretty much everyday. But there has been a lack of new content and a whole lot of spam. I seem to see the same things over and over again and when that's not happening it's spam. Also, people don't seem to check their sources. I always make sure a pin leads to the right website. I hate clicking on a pin and it takes me to some random spam. But anyways rant over.. here is what I've been pinning lately!

via Little Betty Designs

I am seriously crushing on these vintage Pyrex bowls. Those scalloped edges are adorable. Can you say amazing find? Our thrift stores have nothing but overpriced junk.

This handbag is beautiful. But Prada? Might as well be named Will Never Happen... I can still drool over it.

I can't wait to do this back splash. The boyfriend and I have been looking for something that would look good and we think this is it.

Is it weird that I really want some leopard loafers? I'm seriously in love and I usually never like things like this.

10 Day You Challege: 7 Wants

Bought all the stuff to check something off my list! I'm hoping to get it done tonight and have a post about it for tomorrow! I was being a tad lazy yesterday, my allergies have been killing me so I took a Benadryl and it pretty much knocked me out for 12 hours...so no crafting got done but it's okay I think I needed to catch up on my sleep.

So it's Tuesday and that means I'm back again linking up for the 10 Day You Challenge. Today it's 7 wants.

1. A new car

I really want a small SUV. I have a 2 door Honda and it doesn't really cut it when toting the dogs around. Ripley barely fits in it. Also, I like to think about the future and kids. I will definitely need a 4 door something. I'm especially partial to a Volkswagen Tiguan...love them! Maybe when I have a big girl job...

2. My big girl job

I have my business degree but never really found anything that interested me. I live in a small town so it is incredibly hard to find something that 1. wanted me and 2. I wanted. I had to work full-time while going to school so I never got to do the cool internships, so pretty much no one wants me without that experience. I have recently started taking classes to get my teaching license and I am really enjoying it. So hopefully this time next year I'll be in my own classroom!

3. To get married
With the invention of pinterest my future wedding just got that more complicated awesome.

4. To win the lottery!

I know it's really superficial but oh well! It would help pay off all my student loans, buy me the #1 want up there, and hopefully get a new house. The catch? I don't even play unless it's a huge jackpot but the last two times I won my money back plus some so I guess I better become a semi-regular.

5. To own a bakery

I'll be eligible to retire at 42 and by that time all of my student loans will be paid off and I'll hopefully have saved a little money. So I'd really like to own a bakery as my second career. Not something huge and fancy just a cute little shop with cute/tasty stuff and funny signs like this.

6. A new wardrobe

Preferably inspired by my pinterest board.

7. A new macbook

My current white one circa 2008 is getting kind of slow on me and they're starting to release stuff that's not compatible. I would love a macbook pro with retina but $2000? Are you freaking kidding me. No thanks. I'll take the cheapest one since it will definitely last me at least another 4 years.

Yay! Went and bought the remaining supplies for my project tonight. Hopefully everything goes according to plan and I'll have something awesome to show you guys tomorrow!

Pinteresting Things

So one of my favorite things is Pinterest. I just think the concept of it is pretty awesome. No more trying to follow every bookmark or filling up your hard drive with random pictures. It definitely inspires me to create, but also distracts me from actually creating the great things that I find! Here are a few things catching my eye lately that I need to get on with making.

Raggedy Scallop Baby Quilt:

I just found this on Ucreate today and fell in love, hard. I love this for a few reasons but one of the main ones is the fabric is adorable! I love Riley Blake and that hasn't changed with their new collection "Apple of my Eye".  Also, the scallops create visual interest and up the cuteness factor. The only problem is who would I make this for? It's honestly so cute I would think about saving it for a future baby but then watch I'd only have boys.

Car Seat Cover For Your Dogs

This is definitely something I need to invest in making. Not only does it keep hair off the seat but it protects the dog from falling off if you need to make a sudden stop. Of course, I drive a Honda Civic Coupe so my 80 lb German Shepherd is definitely not in danger of falling off the seat (he'd have nowhere to go!). But his hair gets EVERYWHERE. He loves to take rides but the clean up afterwards totally outweighs his happiness. I always seem to forget about his shedding problem. This tutorial would definitely help with the cleanup and could easily be stored in my trunk.

Chevron Blankets/Quilts

Now I know I'm not the only one who is in love with chevron. I can't get over how popular it has become recently. In fact I didn't even really care for it until I saw these two blankets. The first blanket from Aesthetic Nest inspired me to try my hand at making your own chenille from layers of flannel. She has a great tutorial on every step. I even have the same chevron sitting in my stash just waiting for me to create this blanket. We'll see if I ever do. I love that the blanket is quilted without actually having to piece anything, you just follow the chevron lines. The second blanket brought me on over to Blue Elephant Stitches just to find out she was retiring from blogging! How depressing for me since I just discovered her! But she left her followers with a picture of this beautiful baby blanket. I love the chevron and the dandelions together. Not to mention the yellow and taupe. Something similar is definitely on my to do list.
These are only 4 of my 1211 pins. I might have a problem. Check out my pinterest if you don't believe me.....
